Dongducheon City visited the Dongducheon Counseling Office of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council on the 24th to request the designation of a 'base medical institution for medically vulnerable areas' and budget support. Dongducheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyung-deok) announced on the 25th that it visited the Gyeonggi Provincial Council Dongducheon Counseling Office on the 24th to request the designation of a 'base medical institution in medically underserved areas' and budget support.
The meeting was held with the attendance of Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member Im Sang-oh, the head of the Health Administration Division of Dongducheon City Public Health Center, and other related officials.
The main agenda included designating a medical institution equipped to provide emergency medical services, a crucial medical field lacking in Dongducheon City, as a base medical institution, and providing financial support for facilities, equipment, and personnel management.
In particular, Dongducheon Jungang Seongmo Hospital, the only hospital operating an emergency room in Dongducheon City, has been designated as a medically underserved on-duty medical institution and has received partial support for emergency room operating expenses since 2017. However, due to factors such as rising labor costs and increased operating expenses, the hospital has continuously faced difficulties in operating the emergency room, with increasing deficits in hospital management.
Accordingly, through this meeting, the city emphasized the importance of the role of emergency room operating medical institutions in protecting citizens' health in medically underserved areas and requested continuous interest and support from the Gyeonggi Provincial Council for expanding financial support to improve hospital operations, as emergency medical services are essential public goods.
