The city of Guri, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 25th that it plans to implement the 'Partial Amendment to the Guri City Parking Lot Ordinance,' which reduces parking fees for vehicles of national merit recipients and multi-child families, starting in September.

Once the ordinance is enforced, vehicles of national merit recipients and multi-child families will be exempt from parking fees at public off-street parking lots located in Guri City. However, to prevent long-term abandonment, the exemption is limited to 48 hours per parking session.

Additionally, for on-street parking lots installed on road surfaces, to promote the use of commercial areas, national merit recipients are exempt from parking fees for up to 3 hours, and vehicles of multi-child families are exempt for up to 2 hours. After these periods, a 50% discount on parking fees will be applied.

Eligible national merit recipients are those recognized under the 'Act on the Honorable Treatment and Support of Persons of Distinguished Service to the State' who possess a national merit certificate issued by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and are occupants of the vehicle. Vehicles of multi-child families must be registered under the 'Guri City Low Birthrate Countermeasure Support Ordinance,' Article 2, Clause 3, and present multi-child certification documents such as the Gyeonggi i-Plus Card.

Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri City stated, “We consider it meaningful to appropriately honor national merit recipients who have sacrificed and contributed to the nation through this ordinance amendment. We also hope this will help address the serious national low birthrate issue and alleviate the child-rearing burden for multi-child families.”
