Installation of 1km Nighttime Landscape Lighting
The Matgoeul area in Seongdong-ri, Tanhyeon-myeon, Paju-si, Gyeonggi Province, has been reborn as a street of lights.
On the 25th, Paju City announced that it had completed the "Light Theme Street Creation Project," which installed nighttime landscape lighting in the Matgoeul commercial district of Seongdong-ri, Tanhyeon-myeon, on the 23rd.
The Matgoeul commercial district in Seongdong-ri, Tanhyeon-myeon, is adjacent to popular tourist destinations in Paju such as Provence, Heyri Art Village, Tongildongsan, and Odusan Unification Observatory, attracting many visitors. However, the number of visitors has decreased due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn.
Accordingly, Paju City decided to promote the "Light Theme Street Creation Project" to revitalize the commercial district in Seongdong-ri, Tanhyeon. This project involves installing various lights along approximately a 1km pedestrian section crossing the Matgoeul commercial district in Seongdong-ri to create a nighttime scenic attraction.
The city carried out the construction using a special adjustment grant of 300 million KRW secured from Gyeonggi Province last year. Construction began in January and the "Light Theme Street Creation" was completed on the 23rd. Currently, 46 lamp posts and about 300 lights have been installed in the Matgoeul area of Seongdong-ri.
In particular, a variety of lighting such as light-emitting diode (LED) lights, star lights, laser lights, and wall-mounted lights were used to create a distinctive light-themed street. Additionally, solar-powered LED signs promoting Matgoeul were installed on the upper surface of the steel parking lot and at the entrance of Daedong-ri.
Lee I-gu, Director of the Job Economy Division, said, "The alley commercial districts, which form the foundation of the local economy, are currently facing difficulties due to weakened consumer sentiment," and added, "We hope this construction will revitalize the commercial district in the Matgoeul area of Seongdong-ri, Tanhyeon-myeon."
