"Knife Attack at Festival"... 20-Year-Old Man Who Posted Warning Caught at School Festival Site... No Weapon Found
A man in his 20s who posted a message threatening a violent attack with weapons during the festival at Gangwon National University Chuncheon Campus was arrested by the police.
According to Yonhap News on the 24th, Chuncheon Police Station is investigating A, a student in his 20s at Gangwon National University, on charges of intimidation and obstruction of official duties by deception. A is accused of posting on his social media service (SNS) that "Today, I will carry out a stabbing attack at the pub next to Yukju (60th Anniversary Hall). Between 8 and 9 PM, I will bring two knives, one blunt weapon, and one pickaxe."
At around 6:50 PM on the same day, after receiving a report that a threatening post about a violent attack had been uploaded, the police deployed forces including the Chuncheon Police Station Criminal Division, Mobile Patrol Unit, and Special Forces around the festival area, preparing for any emergency situation. At the same time, they focused on identifying the author by checking the SNS account.
The police, tracking the suspect, found that A was at the festival site on the Gangwon National University campus in Hyoja-dong, Chuncheon City, and arrested him at around 8:05 PM that day. It was confirmed that A was not actually carrying any weapons at the time.
The police are investigating A in detail regarding the motive for posting the threat and other circumstances of the incident.
