"Bullied by Mother and Friends Because of Appearance"

A famous Japanese influencer has sparked attention by confessing to having undergone plastic surgery 25 times in total. Recently, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported, "Japanese social media influencer Hirase Airi revealed that since 2017, she has spent over 24 million yen (approximately 230 million KRW) on a total of 25 plastic surgeries."

Deciding to have plastic surgery at the age of 15, Airi started working various part-time jobs from the age of 16 to save money for the procedures. After graduating from high school, she had her first eye surgery at 19, followed by injections of hyaluronic acid into her forehead, nose, and chin, and also raised the bridge of her nose. She spent 1.7 million yen (about 16 million KRW) on breast augmentation surgery. The most expensive surgery was orthognathic surgery, which reportedly cost 4.37 million yen (about 41 million KRW). Regarding the most difficult surgeries, she ranked orthognathic surgery, breast augmentation, and forehead injections in that order. She especially said that during the orthognathic surgery, "the pain and fear were so intense that I felt like I was going to die."

The reason Airi decided to spend a large amount of money on plastic surgery from a young age was due to the hurtful remarks from her family and friends. She confessed, "I was constantly criticized by my mother for my appearance," and "I was bullied by friends because of how I looked and was even told I looked like a boy." She added, "When I was younger, people used to say I was cute, but from around middle school, I became so insecure about my appearance that I didn’t want to look in the mirror," and "I think I gained confidence after my first eye surgery in high school."

Despite worrying about living expenses, Airi poured a lot of money into plastic surgery and has now become an influencer with over 4 million followers on social media. She is currently thriving by appearing on TV variety shows, working as a model, and becoming the CEO of a beauty-related company. Because of this, Airi views the plastic surgeries she underwent as a turning point in her life. She said, "The life I have always dreamed of is all thanks to the physical changes, that is, plastic surgery," and "I used to be called 'mal-eolgul' (a Korean term meaning 'horse face'), but my facial impression changed significantly after the surgeries."

She added, "If I hadn’t been abused by my mother, I wouldn’t have had plastic surgery. I will never act like my mother," but also said, "I am very satisfied with my current life. I am living proof that a person’s life can completely change for the better."
