Exploring the Impact of AI Development on Korean Society and the Future Direction of Busan
The 2024 World Knowledge Forum Busan will be held at 2 p.m. on the 24th at Paradise Hotel Busan.
Top domestic and international experts will attend, including Chung Unchan, the 40th Prime Minister of Korea; Nigel Medhi, Director of the Oxford University Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center; Christine Duquet, Head of Global Marketing at IBM; Kim Yongdae, President of the Korean Association for Artificial Intelligence; and Thomas Basikolo, Head of AI at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
This event is co-hosted by Maeil Business Newspaper and MBN, organized by the Oxford University Korea AI Initiative and the Busan Economic Promotion Agency, and supported by the city, the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and others.
Marking its ninth year, the World Knowledge Forum Busan will discuss in depth the impact of artificial intelligence on humanity under the theme "AI for ALL: What to Expect in the Near Next?". The forum will especially explore ways to utilize AI technology and suggest directions for Busan in the era of artificial intelligence.
The keynote speech of this event, titled "Threshold of the Future Society, Artificial Intelligence," will be delivered by former Prime Minister Chung Unchan.
After serving as President of the Korean Finance Association and the Korean Economic Association, former Prime Minister Chung is currently serving as Chairman of the Institute for Shared Growth.
The following expert sessions will discuss two main topics: "The Global Business Order Transformed by AI" and "AI in Korea: Opportunity or Crisis?".
Speakers for each session will include Nigel Medhi, Director of the Oxford University AI Center; Kim Yongdae, President of the Korean Association for Artificial Intelligence; and Thomas Basikolo, Head of AI at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). These domestic and international experts will engage in in-depth discussions on how AI will reshape society and propose solutions for the future.
The city is promoting various projects to foster the growth of the AI industry, including operating an AI Proof-of-Concept Support Center for nurturing companies, leading pilot projects for AI Transformation (AX) in manufacturing, and advancing AI-driven projects to solve social issues such as industrial safety.
Mayor Park Hyungjun stated, "Busan is building a digital innovation ecosystem centered on AI technology in all fields, aiming to realize a 'global hub city.' As AI technology becomes a new engine for economic growth, I hope this forum will be an opportunity to seek new directions for Busan's future."
