Botanical Garden, Lighthouse Park, and Windmill Theme Park, etc.
A large-scale tourist complex featuring a botanical garden and theme park will be developed on Seonmido, the largest uninhabited island in Incheon.
On the 23rd, Incheon City announced that it has designated and officially notified 660,000㎡ of the Seonmido area in Deokjeok-myeon, Ongjin-gun as the 'Seonmi Theme Island Tourist Complex.'
The tourist complex is a tourism hub area where various tourism facilities are comprehensively developed under the Tourism Promotion Act. Currently, 50 tourist complexes are designated nationwide. This is the second time a tourist complex has been designated in Incheon since the designation of the Ganghwa Comprehensive Resort Tourist Complex in 2012.
The Seonmido tourist complex will include customized accommodation facilities considering the island’s terrain and natural environment, as well as various tourism facilities such as a botanic garden, lighthouse park, glamping site, and windmill theme park. The private developer Seonmi Island, who proposed the designation of the tourist complex, will invest a total of 308 billion KRW and aims to complete the project by 2027.
Located about 50 km from Incheon Port, Seonmido is the largest uninhabited island in Korea with an area of 1,291,114㎡, and it is recorded as having the highest lighthouse installed at its peak. It is located 500 meters from Deokjeokdo, a famous island tourist destination in Incheon, and is also nicknamed the "pretty tail of Deokjeokdo."
Yoo Jeong-bok, mayor of Incheon, said, "Once the Seonmi Theme Island Tourist Complex is developed, it is expected to create synergy with surrounding tourist resources such as Deokjeokdo Seopori Beach and Neungdong Pebble Yard, contributing to job creation and revitalization of the local economy."
He added, "We will actively support administrative efforts and communicate with private developers and Ongjin-gun to ensure that distinctive and differentiated tourism facilities utilizing Seonmido’s unique tourism resources are included in the development plan."
