The crime of a man in his 50s who murdered a woman he was living with by assaulting her with a blunt object and then concealing her body has been revealed after 16 years.
The Geoje Police Station in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 23rd that they had arrested and detained a man in his 50s, identified as A, on charges of murder and concealment of a corpse.
According to the police, around October 10, 2008, A killed his live-in girlfriend, B, who was in her 30s at the time, by striking her head and face with a blunt object during an argument at a residence in Geoje.
After B died, A placed her body in a suitcase, moved it to an outdoor veranda next to the residence, stacked bricks around it, and poured cement to hide the suitcase containing the body.
The two, who were in a romantic relationship, are believed to have lived together in the Geoje area since 2004.
The crime was uncovered this August when the homeowner called workers to repair a leak on the veranda, and the hidden suitcase was discovered while breaking apart a concrete structure.
Upon receiving the report, the police immediately formed a dedicated investigation team and launched an inquiry, confirming that the deceased was B, who had lived at the address since 2006 and was reported missing in 2011.
An autopsy revealed that B's cause of death was head trauma caused by a blunt object.
The police then conducted an intensive investigation, identified A as the suspect, and arrested him at a residence in Yangsan on the 19th.
During police questioning, A confessed to the crime and was found to have lived in the house until 2016.
A police official stated, "At the time of A's arrest, it was confirmed that he had used methamphetamine, so we are investigating that as well. After further investigation into the circumstances of the crime, we plan to refer the case to the prosecution."
