SG Signs Exclusive Supply Contract for Asphalt Slag with SeAH Besteel

Ascon specialized manufacturer SG announced on the 23rd that it will exclusively receive steelmaking slag for Ascon, the raw material of Eco Steel Ascon, from SeAH Besteel. This is the second procurement contract signed in Korea following POSCO.

Since last year, SG has been producing and registered on the Korea On-line E-Procurement System (KONEPS) a eco-friendly 'Eco Steel Ascon' made by recycling steelmaking slag. Compared to regular Ascon, Eco Steel Ascon has lower manufacturing costs and advantages such as suppressing road potholes, high durability, high strength, and reduction of noise and fine dust.

Recently, following Seoul City's road pothole prevention measures, road maintenance has been underway in Gangnam-gu, Gwanak-gu, and other areas. Due to the concentrated downpours of squall-type rain in a short time, potholes and road depressions have frequently occurred on expressways, increasing the need for high-strength Ascon.

An SG official said, "In preparation for the increasing demand for Eco Steel Ascon in the future, we are expanding the procurement of steelmaking slag from major domestic steelmakers. Eco Steel Ascon made from steelmaking slag has a high surface porosity, which strengthens bonding and extends the lifespan of asphalt, effectively reducing road pavement maintenance costs."

Meanwhile, SG signed a contract in May to receive steelmaking slag for Ascon from POSCO, a leading domestic steel company. As the demand for Eco Steel Ascon increases, the procurement volume is also expected to gradually rise.
