Seoul National University, Samsung Seoul Hospital, and Others Begin Hiring New Nurses Amid Prolonged Medical-Political Conflicts

According to the medical community on the 23rd, Seoul National University Hospital and Samsung Seoul Hospital recently posted job announcements for new nurse recruitment and are currently accepting applications. Seoul Asan Hospital also plans to post a new nurse recruitment announcement on the 27th.

Seoul National University Hospital plans to hire 150 nurses who hold nursing licenses or are expected to graduate and obtain nursing licenses by February next year in this recruitment. As in previous years, the hospital intends to proceed with recruitment after confirming the scale of nursing staff needed within the hospital.

Samsung Seoul Hospital also plans to hire a three-digit number of new nurses. Like Seoul National University Hospital, they will select candidates expected to graduate and obtain nursing licenses by February next year.

Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, one of the other Big 5 hospitals, has also confirmed it will recruit new nurses and is finalizing the specific number of personnel and schedule. Severance Hospital is currently reviewing whether to recruit new nurses.

According to the Korean Nurses Association, Korea University Guro and Anam Hospitals, Konkuk University Hospital, and Ewha Mokdong Hospital are also expected to proceed with new nurse recruitment procedures this year.

The medical community views that the demand for new nursing staff arises as nurses change their roles to 'dedicated nurses,' who were called Physician Assistants (PA) due to the absence of residents. The Nursing Act, which legalizes PA nurses, will be implemented from June next year, and this is also cited as one of the factors increasing the demand for nursing personnel.
