Mapo-gu, an 'Child-Friendly City,' Visits Schools to Promote Children's Rights

From October to December, professional instructors invited to educate local elementary students
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, "We will strive to ensure children can fully enjoy their rightful rights"

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) will conduct a "Visiting Children's Rights Education" program for elementary school students in the area from October to December.

This education program is held in collaboration with the International Children's Rights Center, a specialized institution for children's rights education, to help children recognize their basic rights on their own and improve their self-esteem so they can live an autonomous life.

The education will be conducted by a professional instructor for 40 minutes. The instructor will explain children's rights, human rights, and the four fundamental rights, and provide activity-based education to help children recognize themselves and others as dignified human beings.

After the education, a satisfaction survey will be conducted with participating students to verify the practical effects and address areas for improvement.

In fact, last year, the visiting children's rights education conducted for 427 students at four elementary schools in the area showed that over 90% of participants responded that it helped them understand and improve their awareness of children's rights and expressed satisfaction.

Elementary schools wishing to participate in the education can apply through a Google form by September 30.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "A society where children, the future leaders, can grow up healthy and happy is an advanced society," and added, "Mapo-gu will do its best to ensure that children can enjoy their rightful rights."

Meanwhile, last year, Mapo-gu received certification as a Child-Friendly City from the UNICEF Korea Committee, meaning it is a city where all children under 18 can live well.
