84-80 Year-Old Couple Shares Secrets to Exercise and Health Maintenance
"The Moment You Stop Moving Is the Moment You Stop Living"
An elderly couple in their 80s from Canada, who maintain a strong physique through consistent exercise and health management despite their age, has become a sensation on social media (SNS).
On the 20th (local time), the British media outlet Daily Mail introduced the exercise routine of the grandparents of former professional rugby player Phil Mackenzie, along with their secrets to staying healthy. The couple, aged 84 and 80 respectively, have about 500,000 Instagram followers and approximately 870,000 TikTok followers.
In one video, Mackenzie showed his grandfather lifting weights and revealed, "My grandfather does 500 push-ups three times a week."
He said, "My grandfather's health secret is focusing on strength training," adding, "Strength training improves muscle mass, hormones, and metabolic health, and it has a direct correlation not only with longevity but also with living a better life." His grandmother also shared her husband's health secret, saying, "He always emphasized that the moment you stop moving is the moment you stop living."
Additionally, Mackenzie introduced his grandmother's sleep schedule, walking rules, and diet, saying, "Grandma strives to live the fullest and most competent life." These included getting enough sleep, avoiding processed foods, and walking as much as possible.

Mackenzie emphasized, "It is amazing that grandma can easily keep up with her grandchildren by walking," and added, "Maintaining fast walking for such a long time is not an easy task."
He also added, "Both grandpa and grandma always kept their bedtime and wake-up times consistent."
Followers who watched the video expressed awe at the couple's lifestyle. Comments included, "It's so nice to see a family exercising together," and "A healthy lifestyle is something money can't buy."
In South Korea, in August, the couple influencers Kang Chang-dong (62) and Kim Sun-ok (57), who have about 300,000 Instagram followers, also gained attention after being introduced by foreign media. This couple also maintains a strong physique despite their age through consistent exercise together.
According to the article, Kang set a goal in 2021 to shoot a body profile as one of his bucket list items, and soon his wife Kim joined him. Kang said, "When I turned 60, I saw many young people shooting body profiles online, and I thought I should challenge myself too." They plan to take senior model classes by the end of this year and aim to write a book about their experiences in the future.
