"All Participants Must Be Punished"... 5,000 Join 'Deepfake Severe Punishment Protest'

The university student coalition group, Joint Action to Condemn Misogynistic Violence, held a protest on the 21st demanding strict punishment for deepfake sexual exploitation materials and called for the punishment of those involved.

The Joint Action gathered on the road in front of Marronnier Park in Jongno-gu, Seoul, in the afternoon. According to the organizers' estimate, 5,000 people participated in the rally, chanting slogans such as "Punish all who made it, sold it, and watched it" to urge the eradication of sexual crimes.

The participants also pointed out that the police delayed in tracking down perpetrators by victims themselves, the courts released offenders with lenient punishments, the government neglected ongoing violence against women, and the media caused secondary harm through sensational reporting, holding all responsible.

They emphasized that not only those involved in the production, distribution, and sale to prevent harm but also those who viewed deepfake sexual exploitation materials should be punished.

Furthermore, they raised their voices toward the National Assembly, demanding the establishment of legal systems to regulate artificial intelligence (AI) businesses and impose severe penalties on offenders.

The Joint Action was formed by six women's universities in the Seoul area, centered around an incident last November in Jinju, Gyeongnam, where a man in his 20s assaulted a female part-time worker in her 20s at a convenience store because she had short hair.
