Hanwha Life Creates Ecological Garden at Yeouido Middle School

Hanwha Life Insurance announced on the 20th that it has created the 'Hanwha Life Ecological Garden' at a school in the city and launched an eco-friendly social contribution activity.

The Hanwha Life employee volunteer group conducted ecological garden cultivation activities with students at Yeouido Middle School in Seoul the previous afternoon. This project was designed to create green spaces in urban schools to establish habitats for native Korean plants and preserve biodiversity.

The newly established ecological garden planted 1,368 plants of 25 species, including six endangered species such as Misen tree and Dume buchu, and eight endemic species found only in Korea, such as Seomchorong flower and Jombibichu. As a result, the carbon absorption of the 300㎡ green space is expected to reach 540 kg annually.

The ecological garden was also used as a space for experiential learning for students. At Yeouido Middle School, 24 classes with 548 students completed a total of 3,288 hours of ecological education programs, raising awareness of biodiversity conservation.

Hanwha Life also operates 'Ecological Garden Gardners,' where students at Yeouido Middle School directly cultivate the ecological garden with their own hands. Additionally, various programs such as seed planting and making plant picture books will continue to be conducted.

Hong Jeong-pyo, Vice President of Hanwha Life Communication Office, said, “We created a school garden in the city to carry out ecosystem conservation activities and provide a learning space for children. Going forward, we will actively engage in social contribution activities for environmental preservation in cooperation with employee volunteer activities and coexist with the local community.”
