Gyeonggi Province will activate Emergency Level 1 of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters starting at 8:30 a.m. on the 20th.
This decision follows the Korea Meteorological Administration's forecast predicting heavy rain from the early morning of the 20th through the 21st due to a low-pressure system approaching from the west, with expected precipitation exceeding 150mm.
Kim Seong-jung, the First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, issued a special directive urging city and county governments and related departments to thoroughly prepare in advance to prevent casualties caused by heavy rain and strong winds.
The main instructions include ▲preemptive control of low-lying areas prone to flooding, riverside parking lots, riverside walking trails, and facilities frequently used by residents such as Sewolgyo Bridge ▲preemptive control of mountain valleys, recreational areas, and campgrounds popular with visitors, continuous risk notifications through disaster warning systems and emergency text messages, and cooperation with the police for on-site guidance when necessary ▲pre-positioning of flood prevention materials such as pumps to prevent flooding damage to semi-basement houses, as heavy rain is expected to concentrate during the vulnerable early morning hours ▲monitoring and inspection to prepare for damage such as landslides, steep slope collapses, and retaining wall or embankment failures.
A Gyeonggi Province official stated, "Heavy rainfall is expected to concentrate from the morning of the 20th through the early hours of the 21st," adding, "We will fully mobilize our response system proactively to prevent any damage caused by heavy rain and strong winds."
