Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will hold a free health lecture at 2 p.m. on September 27 in the basement auditorium of Jungnang-gu Office.
The special lecture will be held under the theme "Diabetes Expert Lecture, My Precious Blood Vessels" to raise awareness of the risks of diabetes, which affects 1 in 6 adults aged 30 and over (16.7%) and 1 in 3 people aged 65 and over (30.1%) in South Korea.
Dr. Kim Tae-ho, head of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Seoul Medical Center, will serve as the lecturer. Dr. Kim Tae-ho is an expert who has been active in major committees of the Korean Diabetes Association and has conducted numerous diabetes-related training and research activities both domestically and internationally. He plans to deliver a more professional lecture to the residents.
The lecture will cover ▲ understanding the disease such as causes and symptoms of diabetes ▲ prevention and lifestyle management ▲ Q&A session. Participants will gain an accurate understanding of diabetes and learn useful strategies for blood sugar management. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to ask questions about diabetes that they have been curious about.
Any Jungnang-gu resident can participate for free, and 400 participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from August 1 to September 25. Applications can be made by phone or through the district office website.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “Diabetes, once considered a disease of the elderly, has recently seen a rapid increase in patients in their 20s and 30s. We will strive to provide accurate and verified information through various education programs and campaigns so that all residents can be aware of diabetes and focus on prevention and management.”
On the 24th, to mark the Week for Prevention and Management of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases, Jungnang-gu Public Health Center will hold the “Know Your Blood Vessel Numbers, Red Circle Campaign” at Woorim Market in Mangwoo-dong. This campaign aims to encourage people to accurately know and consistently manage their blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels to prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases through healthy blood circulation. During the campaign, residents’ blood pressure and blood sugar will be measured, and based on the results, health consultations and guidance on nine lifestyle rules for preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases will be provided.
In addition, regular education for the prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and management education on major complications of hypertension and diabetes, such as myocardial infarction and stroke, are continuously conducted to promote the health of residents.
