"What must a child suspected of the same thing feel?"
American pop star and actress Lady Gaga revealed the reason why she has consistently remained silent about the so-called 'male rumors' surrounding her.
According to CNN on the 19th (local time), Gaga recently appeared alongside Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft (MS), in the Netflix release "What's Next? The Future with Bill Gates." At this event, Gaga mentioned to Gates, "When I was in my early 20s, there was a rumor that I was a man."
She said, "I was touring or promoting albums around the world, and in almost every interview, the host would say there was a manipulated image on the internet and ask, 'There is a rumor that you are a man. What do you have to say about that?'"
She added, "The reason I didn't answer that question was because I didn't want to be a victim of such lies," and explained, "Also, if a celebrity like me felt embarrassed, I thought about how a child facing the same suspicion would feel."
Gaga said, "I was in a situation where correcting false rumors was not in the best interest of others' happiness," and added, "In such cases, I tried to stimulate people's thoughts in another way. I attempted to create another destructive point using misinformation."
She also said, "Since I was 20 years old, I have already become accustomed to lies about me," and added, "I am an actress, so I think it's a bit funny."
Gaga reportedly received a question with the implication "There is a rumor that you have male genitalia" from a host during a 2011 interview with CNN. At that time, she responded, "Maybe, but is that really so terrible?"
When the host said, "Other celebrities would have issued a statement denying it," Gaga replied, "Why should I waste my time issuing such a press release?" and added, "My fans don't care, and neither do I." Since her debut as a singer, Gaga has been known for her continuous interest in and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights.
