Professor Yang Jong-cheol Appointed as New Director of Jeonbuk National University Hospital

Professor Yang Jong-cheol, a psychiatrist, has been appointed as the next director of Jeonbuk National University Hospital.

According to Jeonbuk National University Hospital on the 20th, the Ministry of Education has officially appointed Professor Yang Jong-cheol as the 22nd director of the hospital. His term will be from the 23rd until September 22, 2027, lasting three years.

Director Yang Jong-cheol has held key positions at Jeonbuk National University Hospital, including Head of Public Relations, Head of Customer Support, Head of External Cooperation, Head of Planning and Coordination, and Chair of the JBUH 2030 Vision Establishment Committee. He has been recognized for his harmonious leadership that fosters cooperation based on planning ability, execution power, communication, and empathy.

He currently serves as the President of the Korean Society of Psychosomatic Medicine and the Special Committee Chair for Future Strategy of the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association. He has also held important roles such as Chair of the Textbook Publication Committee, Chair of the Specialist Examination Committee, and Academic Director within the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association.

Especially known as an authority in the field of psychiatry, he specialized in anxiety disorders and psychoanalysis. In 2016, he was selected as a "Top Anxiety Disorder Specialist Recommended by Doctors."

Additionally, he has contributed to professional medical consultation and the support and human rights protection of socially vulnerable groups by serving as a Specialist Psychological Commissioner for the Court Administration, a Mediation Commissioner for the Jeonju Branch of the Gwangju High Court, a Medical Advisory Commissioner for the Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office, a National Veterans Review Commissioner for the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, and Director of the Jeonbuk Sunflower Child Center. For these contributions, he was awarded the Minister of Justice Award in 2023.
