Popular Items: Recycled Material Towels, Pat An-dae Eye Masks, and Bleach-Free Toilet Paper
In the September ‘Donghaeng Festival,’ attention is focused on eco-friendly products from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and small business owners. Products designed to help protect the environment in everyday life, from towels made of recycled materials to toilet paper produced without chemical bleaching processes, are attracting interest.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Small Enterprise and Market Service announced on the 20th that they are currently holding the large-scale event ‘Donghaeng Festival’ to promote the sales of domestic SME and small business products. The festival, which started at the end of last month and will continue until the 28th, is the second event held this year following the one in May. The Donghaeng Festival was first held in 2021 under the name ‘Donghaeng Sale,’ and after its success, it has been held three times a year in May, September, and December since last year. The Donghaeng Festival, which was held three times for the first time last year, recorded a total sales support performance of 4 trillion won, achieving great success. This year’s first Donghaeng Festival in May also marked a smooth start with sales of about 1.3 trillion won, an increase of 100 billion won compared to the previous year.
This September’s Donghaeng Festival featured eco-friendly products that align with the recent ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management trends. A representative example is the eco-friendly towel ‘RYCLE’ sold by Eco Dream. It is an environmentally friendly product made using ‘EcoStar,’ a recycled PET bottle material, and ‘Ecovero,’ a fiber extracted from wood. In particular, Ecovero emits half the amount of gas and uses half the water compared to conventional fibers during production. The product itself is also of excellent quality. The towel weighs 190g, offering a thick texture and excellent absorbency as its greatest advantages. Made with 30-count yarn, it is soft, durable, and crafted with a sewing technique that prevents unraveling, making it neat and sturdy.
Daoro introduced the ‘Red Bean Thermal Eye Mask Pack,’ which uses red beans, a natural material with high heat retention. Dry and stiff eyes can lead to long-term vision deterioration. Regular warm compresses are necessary to prevent this. Daoro’s product uses red beans, making it safe from electromagnetic waves and harmful substances. Red beans contain a lot of moisture, so they can be heated and used immediately without additional water spraying. Additionally, it uses naturally dyed, fluorescent-free, and bleach-free pure cotton fabric, which is durable and minimizes irritation to the skin.
HuHome released ‘Unbleached Slow Toilet Paper,’ which is made without chemical bleaching processes. Ordinary toilet paper sold on the market undergoes chemical bleaching during the pulping process. Industrial bleaching agents used in this process are classified as toxic substances and can have adverse effects on human health and the environment. Therefore, HuHome produces toilet paper using only unbleached fabric made from wood in its natural state. During manufacturing, high-temperature sterilization is applied to suppress the growth of harmful bacteria and minimize dust generation. It has also passed tests by professional institutions confirming that harmful substances such as lead, arsenic, and cadmium are not detected, ensuring reliable use. The toilet paper is made in a 3-ply deco embossing form, where the air layer between the embossing enhances absorbency, so performance is not compromised.
