GH, Promotion of Reuse Activation at Modular Building Construction Sites

GH, Promotion of Reuse Activation at Modular Building Construction Sites Existing temporary construction office

Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) is actively promoting a plan to reuse modular buildings, which were used as temporary classrooms in the education office's old school facility improvement projects, as temporary offices at construction sites.

Modular buildings are structures prefabricated in factories and assembled on construction sites, which is advantageous for reducing carbon emissions. On the other hand, sandwich panel-type temporary offices at construction sites generate a lot of waste when dismantled and have drawbacks such as poor insulation and vulnerability to fire.

Reusing modular classrooms as temporary offices at construction sites is the first attempt in domestic construction sites. GH expects this to contribute not only to waste reduction but also to the activation of the eco-friendly construction market by spreading the reuse model of modular buildings.

GH plans to pilot the introduction of modular classrooms, which are used as temporary classrooms and returned, at the main complex and corporate relocation complex in the Hanam Gyosan district, where temporary offices are scheduled to be installed in the first half of this year and next year among the 3rd New Towns, and then expand the plan to the entire 3rd New Towns.

The operation schedule of modular classrooms at schools and the usage period of temporary offices at construction sites will be coordinated in advance to quickly install the returned modular classrooms at construction sites.

Kim Se-yong, president of GH, stated, "As a public institution leading modular public housing construction, we will actively explore the reuse sector of modular buildings and contribute to revitalizing the eco-friendly construction market."
