Private Investment Gains Momentum... Total Project Cost of 88.7 Billion Won Invested
Development Project Near Heartseom Linked to Solving Accommodation Issues
The city of Yeongju's 'Yeongju Lake Development' project, aimed at creating a new tourism hub in the northern region of North Gyeongsang Province, is progressing smoothly.
On the 19th, the city announced that the 'Yeongju Dam Complex Resort Development Project' has been included in the Gyeongsangbuk-do Regional Development Plan for Promoting Growth.
With this inclusion, the city will officially push forward the creation of a 102,144㎡ stay-type complex resort in the Heart Island area of Geumgwang-ri, Pyeongeun-myeon. With a total project budget of 88.7 billion KRW, the city plans to resolve the shortage of accommodation facilities, which has been a major obstacle to the development of the local tourism industry.
First, 11.2 billion KRW will be invested to develop a 37,000㎡ site for accommodation facilities and a 10,000㎡ site for food and beverage facilities. In addition, by attracting large-scale private investment, the city plans to build a 150-room lake-view resort and an eight-building local food village by 2029.
With the project now included in the regional development plan, the land use designation of the project site, currently classified as protected mountain and agricultural/forestry area, can be changed, which is expected to facilitate the attraction of private capital.
This project is expected to create a synergy effect by linking with the future plan to develop a small-scale tourism complex around Heart Island. The city also plans to expand various tourism infrastructure in addition to the Yongdu and Yongmi Towers, zipline, and paragliding facilities currently under construction, once the Tourism Promotion Act is revised.
Park Namseo, Mayor of Yeongju, stated, "The inclusion of this regional development plan is an important opportunity for Yeongju Lake, with its pristine natural environment, to become a national resort destination," and added, "We will create a stay-type complex resort that preserves the ecological environment while providing visitors with a differentiated experience."
