Universal Design, Electrical, Firefighting, and Mechanical Equipment Also Replaced
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 19th that it has completed the remodeling of the underground passage at Balsan Station on Subway Line 5 and opened it to residents. The Balsan Station underground passage, which connects Balsan Station with Magok District and Ewha Seoul Hospital, is a passage used by many citizens and was completed in 1999.
The district has been promoting a phased facility improvement project since 2021 to ensure the safety and convenience of the Balsan Station underground passage, which is used by an average of 41,436 people daily. Starting with Exit 2 in 2021, followed by Exits 5 and 6 in 2022, and Exits 3 and 4 last year, this year the facility improvements of the central plaza of the underground passage were completed.
The remodeling applied universal design so that all citizens can use the space safely and conveniently. The faded tile structures inside the underground passage were replaced with marble, and LED lighting and indirect lights were installed to make the underground space bright and safe. Gangseo-gu also stated that electrical, fire, and mechanical equipment were replaced with the latest devices, greatly enhancing the safety and functionality of the facilities.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “We will develop this space beyond a simple passage into a cultural and communication space that revitalizes the daily lives of residents.”
