Last Year, Book Published on Ukraine War
"There Is Freedom to Assassinate Trump"
Ryan Wesley Lause (58), the suspect arrested for attempting to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump, was confirmed to have published a book urging Iran to assassinate the former president.
According to the U.S. daily The New York Times (NYT) and the Associated Press (AP) on the 16th (local time), Lause self-published a book titled "Ukraine's Unwinnable War" last year.
In the 291-page book, he expressed anger over former President Trump’s cancellation of the nuclear deal with Iran during the Barack Obama administration, writing, "Iran, I apologize." In the following sentence, he wrote, "There is a freedom to assassinate Trump."
AP interpreted this sentence as a call for assassination against Iran, but NYT analyzed that since Lause confused general readers with specific targets throughout the book, it could also be a story about readers.
Throughout the book, Lause referred to former President Trump as a "fool" and "idiot," criticizing him as worse than authoritarian leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In a chapter titled "Why Hasn't Putin Been Assassinated?" he wrote, "We all wonder why great intellects did not eliminate Hitler early on and why no measures were taken to kill Putin."
Foreign media analyzed that the content of Lause’s book aligns with his activities on social networking services (SNS), where he has shown great interest in the Ukraine war. He appears to have supported former President Trump in the past but turned away due to disappointment with Ukraine policy.
In the book, Lause mentioned, "Since I once voted for former President Trump, I bear responsibility for electing a foolish person as president." He also stated, "It seems that all the problems in the world are caused by men with tremendous anxiety and childish intelligence and behavior," adding, "It would be better if women led the world."
According to AP reports, he registered as an independent voter in North Carolina in 2012 but recently posted messages on SNS expressing support for President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
