Pyeongchang-dong, along with Hannam-dong, is traditionally considered one of the two major affluent neighborhoods in Korea. Since the past, many chaebol heads and political and government figures have settled there, forming a "wealthy neighborhood." The outstanding natural environment surrounded by Bukhansan and Bugaksan Mountains, combined with cultural facilities such as galleries, is one of the reasons wealthy people are drawn to the area.
Recently, it has become a preferred residential area for celebrities including Lee Hyori, actor couple Choi Soo-jong and Ha Hee-ra, Yoo Hae-jin, Kim Hye-soo, Lee Dong-wook, singer Yoon Jong-shin, Seo Taiji, and broadcaster Hong Jin-kyung.
Most of them are known to reside around the 470 and 480 blocks north of the "Gallery Street," centered on the "Gana Art Center."
