Waiting for Elevator, 'Ah' Arm Nerve Severed... Apartment Management Says "Not Our Concern"

"Daily Wage System Already Cut Off Income"
Apartment Managers and Others "Cannot Take Responsibility"

A 40-year-old family man who was working on tile installation at an apartment in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, suffered severe injuries in an accident, but the apartment management reportedly stated that they would not take responsibility, sparking controversy.

On the 15th, an online community 'Bobae Dream' posted an article titled "I became disabled overnight." The author, Mr. A, a typical 40-year-old family man with a daughter, said, "I carry and install heavy cement tiles at the site," and added, "I work on a daily wage basis, so if I can't go to work, I naturally have no income."

The accident reportedly occurred on the 27th of last month at an apartment in Gimpo. At the time, Mr. A was waiting for the apartment elevator to go home after finishing the installation work. Suddenly, a ceiling glass cover about 20 to 30 cm in diameter fell onto Mr. A's arm.

Mr. A described the situation, saying, "When I looked at my arm, it was severely torn and cut as if my body had been dissected, and blood gushed out like a fountain." Fortunately, a nearby resident helped him by applying first aid to stop the bleeding, but the blood did not stop. Ten minutes after the accident, an ambulance arrived, and the paramedics said, "The wound is too severe," and transported Mr. A to a nearby general hospital.

According to the hospital examination, Mr. A's arteries, nerves, ligaments, and muscles were all severed. Fortunately, two arteries running through the arm were not completely severed, which prevented him from going into shock. Mr. A underwent emergency surgery starting around 11 p.m. that day and successfully completed it by 2:30 a.m. the next day.

Regarding this, Mr. A said, "There are also photos of the wound taken by 119 (emergency services)," adding, "The injury is so severe that I cannot upload the photos. Just looking at them gives me trauma."

The problem was the attitude shown by the apartment management afterward. Mr. A claimed, "Even several days after the accident, there was no contact from the apartment management, and they did not visit. I was struggling alone for 2 to 3 days after surgery, but the apartment side avoided me, and I could not get in touch with the apartment manager even when I tried."

He continued, "I finally managed to connect with the apartment manager, but he said it was none of their business and told me not to contact them," adding, "He hung up saying they could not take responsibility." He lamented, "I am worried about my home loan, my daughter's academy fees, car installments, and living expenses all at once."
