The peak congestion times on the highway during this Chuseok holiday are expected to be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the 15th for the outbound trip, and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the 17th, the day of Chuseok, for the return trip. It is anticipated that drowsy driving will increase due to long hours of driving caused by vehicle congestion. Drivers need to exercise special caution.
Participants in the campaign distributed traffic safety leaflets and promotional items such as ice water to users at the Yeosan Rest Area dining area from around 10:30 a.m. for about an hour. The campaign also emphasized accident prevention measures such as using drowsy rest areas and rest stops when fatigue accumulates during driving, and turning on hazard lights according to road conditions.
Im Taek, captain of the 12th District Highway Patrol Unit, said, "We will do our best to ensure the safe outbound and return trips of highway users during the Chuseok holiday," and added, "As traffic volume increases during the holiday period, we ask drivers to be extra cautious and drive safely on the highway."
