A Total of 4.3 Billion Won in State Funds Allocated for Living Infrastructure Improvements
Yeongju City, Gyeongbuk Province, has been selected for the '2025 Vulnerable Area Living Conditions Improvement Project (Saetteul Village Project)' for three districts: Sutgol District in Yeongju 1-dong, Jigok 1-ri in Pyeongeun-myeon, and Yongsang 2-ri in Isan-myeon. These districts will receive a total of 4.3 billion KRW in national funding.
The Vulnerable Area Living Conditions Improvement Project is an urban regeneration initiative targeting areas with poor residential environments. It aims to enhance the quality of life for residents through comprehensive measures such as improving safety, expanding living infrastructure, and upgrading housing conditions.
The recently selected Sutgol District in Yeongju 1-dong will receive 2 billion KRW, Jigok 1-ri in Pyeongeun-myeon will receive 1.2 billion KRW, and Yongsang 2-ri in Isan-myeon will receive 1.1 billion KRW in project funding.
The project in Sutgol District will be carried out over five years from 2025 to 2029, while the projects in Jigok 1-ri and Yongsang 2-ri will run for four years until 2028. Preliminary plans for the project include safety measures such as reinforcing dangerous slopes, housing improvement projects like slate roof replacement and demolition of abandoned houses, and resident capacity-building education.
Additionally, the project aims to dramatically improve living conditions by upgrading traditional toilets, maintaining village roads, and installing fire hydrants and CCTV cameras.
Sutgol District in Yeongju 1-dong, which suffered from landslide damage and fires last year resulting in abandoned houses, is expected to see significant improvements in safety and living conditions through this project. Planned works include slope stabilization, installation of side ditches, repair of old walls and deteriorated stairs, anti-slip pavement, and installation of security lights and CCTV cameras, as well as housing improvements and demolition of traditional toilets.
According to the city, the active will of residents in the selected districts played a key role in the project's approval. Residents voluntarily formed a steering committee and identified projects tailored to local needs, which was a decisive factor in the selection.
Park Namseo, Mayor of Yeongju, stated, "Our selection for the Saetteul Village Project was made possible by the active efforts and participation of local residents. We will do our utmost to improve outdated living infrastructure and restore the community to enhance the quality of life for our residents."
