Busan Office of Education Opens Nation's First Neulbom-Only School as a Second School in Myeongji

Targeting 7 Schools in the Myeongji Area... Integrated Care and Learning-type Neulbom

28 Dedicated Staff Assigned, Operated After School on Weekdays and Saturdays

The ‘Myeongji Neulbom Dedicated School’ has opened to accommodate the high demand for Neulbom services in the Myeongji area, providing student capacity and creating a new model for integrated care and learning-based Neulbom operations.

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 13th that the nation’s first ‘second school’, the ‘Myeongji Neulbom Dedicated School’, held its opening ceremony and has officially begun operations.

The Neulbom Dedicated School is a hub-type school that integrates both care-based and learning-based Neulbom services, operating separately from the Neulbom School within individual schools. After a week-long pilot program at the Student Character Education Experience Center starting from the 1st, full-scale operations began on the 9th.

The ‘Myeongji Neulbom Dedicated School’ consists of 20 modular classrooms, accommodating over 500 students, and is operated for first to third graders from seven elementary schools in the Myeongji area (Nammyeong Elementary, Myeongmun Elementary, Myeongwon Elementary, Myeongji Elementary, Myeongho Elementary, Sinmyeong Elementary, and Ocean Elementary).

To relieve the childcare burden and reduce private education costs for parents in the Myeongji area with high Neulbom demand, the school offers ‘integrated operation of learning-based and care-based Neulbom’, ‘school bus service’, ‘provision of snacks and dinner for students who wish’, and ‘24-hour emergency care Neulbom center’ among other services.

Additionally, to operate separately from the Neulbom School within existing schools, 28 dedicated staff members have been assigned, including the Neulbom School principal, Neulbom administrative manager, Neulbom staff, care specialists, and school bus safety assistants.

The dedicated school is open on weekdays from after school until 8 p.m. On Saturdays, it operates from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the 24-hour emergency care Neulbom center operating outside these hours.

Students can participate in high-quality classes using textbooks developed by the city’s Office of Education, such as ‘Hangul Play’, ‘Math Play’, and ‘English Play’, as well as 32 diverse learning-based Neulbom programs including play arts, English musicals, music jump rope, fencing, and AI robots.

The city’s Office of Education expects that the opening of the unprecedented ‘second school model’ Neulbom Dedicated School will enable the realization of a complete Neulbom operation.

The opening ceremony, held on the 12th, was attended by over 300 people, including Superintendent Ha Yoonsoo, Vice Minister of Education Oh Seokhwan, Busan Mayor Park Hyungjoon, and parents. Notably, President Yoon Sukyeol sent congratulatory remarks and a message.

The event began with a performance by the Myeongho Elementary choir, followed by a Busan Neulbom School introduction video, an unveiling ceremony, a facility tour, and talent donation by Superintendent Ha Yoonsoo and Vice Minister Oh Seokhwan.

Ha Yoonsoo, Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, “The Myeongji Neulbom Dedicated School will play a significant role in reducing the childcare burden on parents by strengthening the state’s responsibility for education and care,” and added, “With the opening of the nation’s first Neulbom Dedicated School, we will strive even harder to make Busan a better place to raise and educate children.”

The Busan Office of Education plans to open a second Neulbom Dedicated School in the Jeonggwan area in March next year, following Myeongji, and will also operate hub-type Neulbom Dedicated Schools utilizing existing school facilities.
