Renault Korea to Start Partial Strike from 10th... "Efforts to Maintain Production Without Disruption"

Renault Korea Union Announces Full Strike on 13th
Concerns Over Delivery Disruption of 17,000 Grand Koleos Units

Renault Korea to Start Partial Strike from 10th... "Efforts to Maintain Production Without Disruption"

The Renault Korea labor union has been conducting a partial strike since the 10th. With a full strike scheduled for the 13th, the company has stated that it will continue negotiations through dialogue as much as possible to ensure that the delivery schedule of the recently launched sports utility vehicle (SUV) new model, the 'Grand Koleos,' is not disrupted.

According to industry sources on the 12th, the Renault Korea labor union began a partial strike starting with the night shift on the 10th. The strike was initiated after the tentative agreement was rejected in the wage and collective bargaining union member vote held on the 6th. The strike is currently ongoing for 6 hours each for both day and night shifts. As a result, the production lines at the Busan plant, which manufactures major models including the 'Grand Koleos,' are operating only 2 hours per day. The union plans to switch to a full strike starting on the 13th.

The labor and management have yet to reach an agreement on wage increase rates and the wage peak system. Previously, a tentative agreement was reached that included a basic wage increase of 73,000 won and a bonus payment of 3 million won in celebration of the launch of the Grand Koleos new model, but it was rejected by 64.8% of union members in the vote.

The company requested additional negotiations with the union over the 10th and 11th, but the union has not responded. Due to the labor-management conflict, production of the Grand Koleos, Renault Korea's first new model in four years, has also been disrupted. Currently, the cumulative contracts for the Grand Koleos total approximately 17,000 units.

A Renault Korea official stated, "We are making efforts to resume negotiations with the union as soon as possible," and added, "We will do our best to negotiate with the union so that we do not break our promise to customers and can deliver vehicles on time."
