Korail announced on the 11th that Han Moon-hee, President of Korail, held high-level meetings with representatives of major partner countries’ railway agencies, including Tanzania and Malaysia, who visited Korea to attend GICC 2024, agreeing to enhance mutual cooperation in the railway sector.
President Han held consecutive meetings over two days starting from the 10th with Masanja Kungu Kadogosa, President of Tanzania Railways Corporation, Mohd Nur Ismail, President of Malaysia High-Speed Rail Corporation (MyHSR), and executives of Etihad Rail (ER) from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
During the high-level meeting with Tanzania Railways Corporation on the 10th, President Han discussed key issues such as participation plans and technical support for Tanzania’s railway infrastructure development projects, including the operation and maintenance of the ‘Central Line Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Project,’ the establishment of a ‘Railway Training Center,’ and the improvement of the meter-gauge railway (MGR).
Earlier, in July, Korail laid the foundation for expanding Korean-style railway infrastructure in Africa by signing a Memorandum of Understanding for mutual cooperation between Korea and Tanzania Railways Corporation in Tanzania.
On the 11th, a high-level meeting was held with Malaysia High-Speed Rail Corporation. At this meeting, both sides shared Korea’s KTX operational technology and know-how and agreed to strengthen their strategic partnership by exploring ways to cooperate on the upcoming ‘Malaysia High-Speed Rail Project.’
On the same day, President Han also pledged mutual exchange and cooperation with UAE’s Etihad Rail and Mongolia Railways Corporation and exchanged opinions on discovering new railway projects.
Han Moon-hee, President of Korail, said, “GICC is an opportunity for Korail to strengthen its position in railway markets in Africa and Asia,” adding, “Based on 20 years of stable operation experience and technological expertise of KTX, Korail will do its best to contribute to the development of overseas railway infrastructure and secure the international competitiveness of Korean railways.”

Meanwhile, GICC has been held annually since 2013 to support cooperation in the infrastructure sector among the government, major overseas clients, multilateral development banks, and construction and engineering companies, as well as to assist domestic companies in entering overseas markets.
This year’s GICC is hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and organized by the Overseas Construction Association, taking place from the 10th to the 12th at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas.
At this event, key figures such as ministers, vice ministers, and CEOs from 50 institutions across 30 countries attend to share infrastructure development plans and upcoming projects for bidding.
