First-Year Student of Digital Literary Creation at Kyungnam Information University Debuts as Writer

Gyeongnam Information University announced on the 11th that Lee Miok and Kim Hyoseon, students from the university's Department of Digital Literary Creative Writing, have debuted as writers.

Imiok, sijo poet, Kim Hyoseon, children's literature writer, debuted.

Lee was selected as the winner in the sijo section of the September 2024 issue of "Monthly Literature" with the work "Neighborhood Baby Pumpkin," while Kim's piece "That Kid" was chosen in the children's story section for new writers in the Fall 2024 issue of "Human and Literature."

Lee received praise for "not only infusing warmth and humanity into the work, but also demonstrating exceptional skill in crafting sijo," while Kim was recognized for "solid writing ability and a strong narrative structure in storytelling."

The Department of Digital Literary Creative Writing at Gyeongnam Information University is a newly established department that combines literary creative writing and media video studies.

What is particularly noteworthy is that out of 55 enrolled students, two professional writers have emerged. The university considers it positive and meaningful that these new professional writers have debuted in the sijo and children's story genres, rather than in the general free verse genre, highlighting the significance of the new interdisciplinary department.

Professor Jung Yooji, head of the Department of Digital Literary Creative Writing, said, "It is a great honor for the department that two professional writers have emerged from the newly established Department of Digital Literary Creative Writing," adding, "We will strive even harder to create an environment where many adult learners can pursue their dream of becoming writers."
