The Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) announced that it plans to hold a bilateral working-level meeting with Telegram soon regarding deepfake and other digital sex crimes.
On the 11th, the KCSC released a press statement saying, "During the initial communication between both sides, Telegram confused the KCSC with the Korea Communications Commission and mistakenly recorded the chairman's name, causing some confusion. However, through close communication over the past 10 days since the hotline was established, we were able to reach a swift agreement."
The KCSC explained that since the 3rd, through the hotline channel established with Telegram, it began formally requesting Telegram from the 5th to delete deepfake and other digital sex crime videos, and Telegram has been deleting 100% of the requested content and immediately reporting the results back.
The KCSC added that from the 5th until now, two days after the hotline was opened, Telegram has deleted all 75 cases of digital sex crime information requested by the KCSC, including deepfake sex crime videos.
It further stated, "As promised when the hotline was established on the 3rd, Telegram promptly responds to the KCSC's deletion requests, enabling smooth communication. Through this communication, continuous working-level discussions have been held, and both sides have agreed to hold a prompt face-to-face meeting soon."
The KCSC expects that the meeting will discuss not only the current issue of deepfake videos but also more comprehensive cooperation measures, and may explore the possibility of consultations with related agencies such as the police.
