Chung-Ang University announced on the 11th that it awarded certificates of commendation and scholarships to students who saved lives through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
On the same day, Chung-Ang University held the ‘On-Campus Life-Saving Merit Award Ceremony’ in the conference room on the 3rd floor of the main building. At the ceremony, Lee Hyun-soon, Chairman of Chung-Ang University, and Park Sang-gyu, President of Chung-Ang University, personally presented certificates of commendation to the students, offering praise and encouragement.
The four students who received certificates of commendation that day were Song Ki-cheol (College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy), Go Young-wook (College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy), Koo Ja-rok (College of Medicine, Department of Medicine), and Lee Dae-hwan (Graduate School, Department of Medicine).
They discovered a man, Mr. A, standing in front of the serving counter at Chamseulgi Cafeteria on Chung-Ang University’s Seoul campus, who lost consciousness and collapsed, suffering a severe head injury on July 5. Led by Song, Koo and Lee administered emergency first aid using CPR, while Go promptly called 119 and explained the situation. As a result, Mr. A regained consciousness and was handed over to the 119 emergency medical team.
Song recalled the day, saying, “Three weeks before the accident, I received about three hours of emergency responder training, a non-curricular program offered by the College of Pharmacy. I had concerns about whether it was right to attempt CPR on an emergency patient, but I remembered learning that ‘when in doubt about whether to attempt, it is always correct to proceed,’ which helped me remain calm and provide emergency aid.”
Chairman Lee said, “I was deeply moved to see the students act quickly and accurately. I hope they continue to diligently pursue their studies, fulfilling their roles as students, and grow into talents who widely promote the name of Chung-Ang University.”
