Electric Taxi Crashes Into Vehicles, Injuring Over 10... Driver Claims "Sudden Acceleration"

10 Injured in Rear-End Collision

An electric taxi driven by a driver in his 70s crashed into multiple vehicles on a road in Daegu, injuring a total of 10 people.


On the 11th, Yonhap News reported, "At around 8:30 a.m. on this day, an electric taxi driven by a driver in his 70s, Mr. A, crashed into several vehicles at Beomeo Intersection in Suseong-gu, Daegu." The taxi driven by Mr. A started moving for unknown reasons while waiting at a red light at Beomeo Intersection and hit the vehicle in front. As a result of the impact, two vehicles and one motorcycle waiting at the signal ahead of Mr. A were damaged.

Mr. A's vehicle then crossed the intersection, mounted the sidewalk, hit a car entering the road, came back down to the road, hit another car, and then stopped. In this process, a total of 10 vehicles, including the motorcycle, were damaged.


As a result of the accident, nine vehicle occupants including Mr. A sustained minor injuries, and one pedestrian was also slightly injured. Among them, two people including the pedestrian were transported to the hospital.


Mr. A reportedly claimed sudden unintended acceleration at the scene. He was not under the influence of alcohol.


The police have booked Mr. A on charges of violating the Special Act on Traffic Accidents and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other evidence.
