Namyangju City Takes First Step Toward 'Drone Industry Development' Namyangju City signed the "Gyeonggi Northern Drone Industry Development Business Agreement" on the 10th with 10 related organizations, including Daejin TP and the Drone Operations Command.

Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) has taken the first step toward fostering the drone industry.


On the 11th, Namyangju City announced that it participated in the "Northern Gyeonggi Drone Industry Development Business Agreement" held at Gyeonggi Daejin Technopark (Daejin TP) on the 10th.


At the signing ceremony, including Hong Ji-seon, Deputy Mayor of Namyangju City, heads of 10 related organizations such as Daejin TP, Drone Operations Command, Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute, and Daejin University attended to discuss development plans for the drone industry centered in Northern Gyeonggi and signed the business agreement.


This agreement includes △ joint efforts in drone technology development and research △ development and operation of programs to enhance education and exchange of personnel related to the drone industry △ sharing and cooperation of drone testing equipment, laboratories, and infrastructure △ joint research and development projects.


Additionally, the agreement covers △ strengthening cooperation to pioneer the market for the regional drone industry △ market promotion and marketing activities △ sharing the latest technology trends and market information related to drones △ discovering cooperative projects and activating information exchange.


The city plans to develop the Wangsuk Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex in the 3rd New Town as a hub for the Gyeonggi drone industry. In particular, this site is an innovation cluster where key technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution such as AI, fabless, and next-generation communications converge, making it an optimal location equipped with infrastructure where drone-related companies can freely conduct research and development and continuously interact with related industries.


The city intends to actively attract a drone testing and certification center and an unmanned mobility industry support center through cooperation with related organizations in the future, creating an environment that enables demonstration testing and commercialization support for drone-related companies, thereby establishing the best environment for drone startups and small and medium-sized enterprises to grow.


Deputy Mayor Hong Ji-seon said, “This business agreement is an opportunity to foster a drone-centered unmanned mobility industry based in Northern Gyeonggi as part of the large-scale development and advanced industry promotion in Northern Gyeonggi,” adding, “We will devote all our capabilities to revitalize the local economy through the establishment of drone-related infrastructure and attraction of excellent promising companies, and to develop Namyangju City into the hub of Korea’s drone industry.”
