64% Respond "Will Visit Hometown During Chuseok" in Samsung Card Survey
87% Prepare Gifts or Pocket Money
Most Common Budget Between 100,000 and 300,000 Won
This Chuseok holiday, the number of people returning to their hometowns is expected to be twice as many as three years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the 11th, Samsung Card surveyed 500 Samsung Card users about their Chuseok holiday plans, and 64% of respondents said they planned to visit family and relatives. In a survey conducted by Samsung Card before Chuseok during the pandemic in 2021, the figure was 30%, showing a twofold increase in three years.

Other plans besides visiting family and relatives included 'having meals with family and relatives (26%)', 'rest and leisure activities (18%)', 'domestic and international travel (10%)', and 'working as usual (6%)' in that order.
87% of members responded that they were preparing gifts and pocket money for Chuseok. The highest percentage, 32%, said they were preparing a budget of 100,000 to 300,000 KRW. This was followed by '300,000 to 500,000 KRW (29%)', '500,000 to 1,000,000 KRW (23%)', 'under 100,000 KRW (9%)', and 'over 1,000,000 KRW (7%)'.
49% of respondents said they prepared pocket money as holiday gifts. This was followed by 'preparing both pocket money and gifts (33%)' and 'preparing gifts only (19%)'.
Types of holiday gifts prepared besides pocket money included 'fresh food (54%)', 'health supplements (48%)', 'processed food (20%)', 'cosmetics (14%)', 'others (4%)', and 'home appliances (3%)'. The main purchasing channels for holiday gifts were 'online malls (38%)', 'large supermarkets (27%)', 'markets and agricultural/fishery product centers (13%)', 'department stores (11%)', and 'Kakao and Naver gift services (9%)'.
60% of respondents said they were looking forward to the Chuseok holiday but also felt burdened and stressed. 33% of respondents said they planned to relieve holiday stress by getting enough rest (naps and sleeping in). Others said they would watch movies, TV, or OTT content (19%), take short trips or staycations (17%), go shopping (10%), exercise (10%), or meet friends (9%).
