The 71st Anniversary 'Maritime Police Day' Ceremony... Central Maritime Police Agency Narcotics Investigation Unit Promotions

Kim Jong-wook, Head of the Coast Guard Cheong, Emphasizes "A Coast Guard Strong in Basics and On-Site"

The 71st anniversary ceremony of 'Maritime Police Day' was held on the 10th at the Incheon Songdo Maritime Police Agency building.

About 400 people attended the event, including Kim Jong-wook, Commissioner of the Maritime Police Agency, and Kang Do-hyung, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries. At the ceremony, the Maritime Police Agency presented the vision of "a maritime police force faithful to the basics and strong on the ground," pledging to become a competent maritime police force that enhances expertise based on solid fundamentals.

Following the ceremony, a special promotion appointment ceremony was held for three officers from the Central Maritime Police Agency's Narcotics Investigation Unit. They apprehended a group last month who smuggled 60 kg of liquid cocaine worth 180 billion won overseas and processed it into solid form domestically.

This year, the Maritime Police Agency introduced the 'team-wide special promotion system' for the first time. The Central Maritime Police Agency's Narcotics Investigation Unit consists of four members, and the remaining one was also specially promoted this time.

During the event, a video highlighting the importance of SOS distress signals and wearing life jackets was screened, accompanied by related performances.

Maritime Police Day was established as a legal commemorative day in 2013 to widely promote the importance of protecting maritime sovereignty and to raise awareness of maritime safety. It commemorates the enforcement date of the 'Exclusive Economic Zone Act,' which declared the extent of maritime territory on September 10, 1996.

Commissioner Kim said, "Since its establishment in 1953, the Maritime Police has now firmly established itself as a comprehensive maritime security agency," adding, "We will further enhance our capabilities by integrating advanced technology and information to adapt to the changing future environment."
