University Museum Holds Re-exhibition 'Return of the Millennium Bugyeongryong'
Pukyong National University (President Jang Youngsoo) held the event "The Return of the Millennium Pukyong Dragon," a re-exhibition of "Pukyongosaurus," in the lobby on the first floor of Cheongwoon Hall on the 10th.
The Pukyong National University Museum (Director Cho Sehyun) recently completed the reinstallation of Pukyongosaurus, the world's first dinosaur with a Korean name reported by the university's excavation team, in the museum inside Cheongwoon Hall and held the event on this day.
Pukyongosaurus was moved to storage in 2020 for the remodeling of Cheongwoon Hall, and its exhibition was postponed due to the spread of COVID-19.
After being specially exhibited at BEXCO last August for the 2024 Busan International Geological Congress, it has now returned to Pukyong National University.
Pukyongosaurus is an estimated 15-meter-long herbivorous dinosaur whose fossils were excavated and restored by Professor Baek Inseong's team from the Department of Environmental Geosciences at Pukyong National University in 1998 from the Early Cretaceous sedimentary rock layer on a coastal islet in Geumseong-myeon, Hadong-gun, Gyeongnam.
It was named after the university, "Pukyong," when it was unveiled in 2000, and the English name is read as "Pukyongosaurus," with the connecting vowel "o" placed before "saurus." In Korean, it is called "Cheonnyeonbukyeongryong," meaning "Millennium Pukyong Dragon."
Director Cho Sehyun stated, "Through this re-exhibition, we expect not only to contribute to academic and scientific advancement but also to foster an exhibition culture that shares meaningful achievements of the university and the spread of natural history education with the local community."
