Hong Chang-sik Appointed as Legal Affairs Director of the Ministry of National Defense, Former Chief Judge of the High Military Court

Kim Han-seong, Former Cyber Operations Commander, Appointed as Director of Defense Computer Information Center

Hong Chang-sik, a lawyer who previously served as the Chief Judge of the High Military Court, has been appointed as the successor to Yoo Jae-eun, the Ministry of National Defense Legal Affairs Director under investigation for allegations of external pressure in the investigation of a Marine Corps personnel death case.


The Ministry of National Defense announced on the 10th that Lawyer Hong was appointed to the Legal Affairs Director position, a director-level open position. He is a 58th Legal Officer class graduate and has served as Chief Judge of the High Military Court, Director of the Army Legal Office, and Director of Military Justice Policy at the Ministry of National Defense.

The Legal Affairs Director is responsible for establishing military judicial policies, managing the operations of military courts and military prosecution agencies, drafting, revising, and interpreting defense-related laws, and selecting and managing military legal officers. Yoo Jae-eun, the former director under investigation related to the death of Marine Corps Corporal Chae, was appointed in August 2021, and his three-year term has expired.


The Ministry of National Defense also appointed Kim Han-seong, a special professor in the Department of Security Management Engineering at Myongji University, as the Director of the Defense Information and Communications Agency. The new director Kim is a graduate of the 46th class of the Korea Military Academy and has served as the Commander of the Cyber Operations Command.
