To Lee Won-seok: "Reflect on Whether You Have Fulfilled Your Duties"
Kim Jae-won, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, referred to the meeting between former President Moon Jae-in, who is under prosecution investigation, and Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, as a "criminal alliance," evaluating it as "each trying to use the other to make their own situation more advantageous." On the 8th, Lee visited former President Moon.
On the 10th, Kim said on SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show,' "Lee is facing serious criminal charges judicially, but he must have judged that framing this as political oppression would be advantageous to himself," adding, "Former President Moon likely has the same intention." He continued, "Although they were politically on different sides, they are now attempting to use each other to make their own situations more favorable," emphasizing, "They will need to undergo proper judicial evaluation and judgment going forward."
Kim also criticized Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok regarding the 'luxury bag bribery suspicion' involving First Lady Kim Geon-hee, wife of President Yoon Suk-yeol, which was investigated alongside the prosecution's inquiry. The day before, Prosecutor General Lee stated that he would respect the decision of the Prosecution Investigation Deliberation Committee, which recommended non-prosecution for the First Lady's suspicion, saying, "I have thought a lot about the fact that unwise, inappropriate, or undesirable conduct does not immediately become subject to criminal punishment or recognized as a criminal charge under the law."
In response, Kim said, "He presumptuously acted like a moral teacher," and added, "He should reflect on whether he has properly fulfilled his duties as Prosecutor General until now." He said, "A prosecutor is someone who investigates according to law and principles," and "It is sufficient to investigate and reach conclusions based on law and principles; evaluating it with political language or the ethical consciousness of ordinary citizens is inappropriate behavior."
He questioned, "Has Prosecutor General Lee properly fulfilled his duties?" and said, "Many people are puzzled by his sudden remarks just before retirement after being quiet for two years." He continued, "Previous Prosecutor Generals have spoken with restraint and regarded investigating according to law and principles as their duty," adding, "However, Prosecutor General Lee has not shown that he has investigated according to law and principles until now, and it is puzzling that he suddenly made such remarks as his term ends."
