16 Gardeners of the 2nd Term Dongdaemun-gu to Start Field Work from Mid-September
Completed 24 Weeks of Practice-Oriented Training from February to September 5 This Year
Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that 16 members of the 2nd Dongdaemun-gu Gardeners will be dispatched to public garden sites starting from mid-September to begin full-scale garden maintenance.
Since the proclamation of 2023 as the "City of Flowers," Dongdaemun-gu has been operating a gardener training program aimed at spreading garden culture and creating a sustainable city. This year, the 2nd batch of graduates completed 24 weeks of training from February to September 5.
The 16 graduates will be dispatched to various sites within Dongdaemun-gu from mid-September and will be responsible for garden management tasks alongside the 1st batch of gardeners.
The 2nd gardener training program was a practice-centered professional course conducted alongside theoretical classes. Trainees directly designed and created the ‘Neulggeot Garden’ and ‘Tteokjeon Rest Garden’ in the small green spaces of Jeonnong-dong, gaining hands-on experience in gardening.
During the advanced training from June to September, they also gained experience through site-specific practical work such as weeding and pruning at ‘Cheongnyang Dream Forest’ and ‘Cheongnyangni Charm Garden.’
In May and June, they participated in volunteer activities at the Jungnangcheon Rose Garden and the Flower Field of Knowledge, and they plan to continue weekly volunteer activities from September to November.
A district official stated, “The gardeners will contribute to beautifying the city by applying the plant composition, characteristics, and management methods of public gardens learned through the training,” adding, “As public gardens expand, we plan to continuously promote the gardener training program next year as well.”
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “I hope the capabilities of the gardeners, equipped with both theory and practice, will bloom throughout Dongdaemun-gu.”
