Mirae Asset Global Investments announced on the 9th that it held the ‘Nasdaq×TIGER ETF Seminar’ in collaboration with the U.S. Nasdaq Stock Market (NASDAQ).
The seminar, held at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul, was the first global investor seminar hosted by the U.S. Nasdaq Stock Market in Korea. Under the theme ‘Capturing New Investment Opportunities - AI Semiconductor and Beyond,’ Nasdaq unveiled the ‘U.S. AI Philadelphia Semiconductor Index’ together with TIGER ETF for the first time worldwide in Korea.
Attendees included Namgi Kim, Vice President and Head of ETF Management Division at Mirae Asset Global Investments, Emily Spurling, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Index at Nasdaq’s New York headquarters, and Sean Wasserman, Vice President and Head of Index & Advisor Solutions, representing the ETF businesses of both companies.
Senior Vice President Emily Spurling said, “We have high expectations as this is the first new semiconductor investment index in 30 years, and we are pleased to announce it in Korea. This is an excellent outcome achieved through our partnership with Mirae Asset, and we plan to continue creating synergy through collaboration with TIGER.”
David Tsoi, Head of Index Research at Nasdaq Asia-Pacific, presented on the ‘Outlook of AI Semiconductor Market and Introduction of the ASOX Index,’ unveiling the newly launched ‘PHLX US AI Semiconductor Index’ (ASOX, U.S. AI Philadelphia Semiconductor Index) that invests in AI semiconductors.
This is a global semiconductor investment index newly announced by Nasdaq Stock Market for the first time in over 30 years since the launch of the ‘PHLX Semiconductor Sector (SOX, U.S. Philadelphia Semiconductor Index)’ in 1993. The index expands the weighting of leading global AI semiconductor companies by selecting only fabless, IP & EDA, equipment, backend, and foundry companies connected to the AI semiconductor value chain from the ‘U.S. Philadelphia Semiconductor Index,’ and is expected to represent the future semiconductor market.
At the seminar, Min Kim, Head of Capital Markets, and Junghwan Lee, Head of ETF Management Division at Mirae Asset Global Investments, also gave presentations introducing the ‘TIGER Nasdaq ETF.’
Mirae Asset Global Investments has introduced various innovative products using Nasdaq indices, including the country’s first ‘TIGER U.S. Nasdaq 100 ETF’ tracking the Nasdaq 100 index in 2010, and the only domestic ETF investing in the U.S. Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, the ‘TIGER U.S. Philadelphia Semiconductor Nasdaq ETF.’
As of the 6th of this month, the total net asset size of the TIGER Nasdaq ETF reached 8 trillion KRW. The newly unveiled ‘U.S. AI Philadelphia Semiconductor Index’ is also an index calculated through cooperation between the U.S. Nasdaq Stock Market and Mirae Asset TIGER ETF, and is expected to become a new leading global semiconductor investment index.
Namgi Kim, Vice President and Head of ETF Management Division at Mirae Asset Global Investments, said, “Mirae Asset TIGER ETF is the largest ETF brand in Korea representing innovation and has collaborated with the U.S. Nasdaq Stock Market, a global icon of innovation, for a long time. As a new semiconductor index leading the AI era, we will continue efforts to expand the investment base in innovative growth industries by building a Legacy Free portfolio.”
