POSCO Museum Hosts Korea's Largest Pop-up Book Exhibition... Until October 13

Held on Basement 1st Floor of POSCO Center, Gangnam-gu, Seoul

POSCO Art Museum announced on the 9th that it will hold the exhibition "Popping, Living Books" until October 13.

This exhibition showcases over 250 works by popup book artisans from the 13th to the 20th century. It is the largest scale in Korea. The history of popup books is presented at a glance, covering a flow of over 800 years.

The exhibition is held on the basement first floor of the POSCO Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Visitors can attend without a reservation. Viewing hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. Every Tuesday, the museum operates until 8 p.m. for night viewing. It is closed during the Chuseok holiday, National Foundation Day, and Hangul Day.

This exhibition also features 19th-century German theatrical popup books and large popup books by Bojtech Kubasta, an engineer from the Czech Republic. In the final corner, a space is provided where visitors can experience popup books firsthand.

The term "popup book" was previously called various names such as "movable book" and "toy book." Popup books began with the "Volvelle" created by English monk Matthew Paris in the 13th century, initially used for medical and scientific education, and later expanded as children's toys.
