Kim Dong-yeon: "Medical Community's Demand for Alternatives Shows Lack of Willingness or Problem-Solving Skills"

CBS Radio 'Lee Cheol-hee's Weekend News Show'
"We Must Quickly Develop Alternatives from the Starting Point"

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon criticized the government's statement on the 7th that sufficient discussions are possible if the medical community proposes reasonable measures regarding the increase in medical school quotas for the 2026 academic year, saying, "Asking the medical community to come up with alternatives means the government either lacks the will to solve the problem or, even if it has the will, lacks the ability to handle it."

On the same day, Governor Kim appeared on CBS Radio's 'Lee Cheol-hee's Weekend News Show' and said, "If a person who intends to reform lacks the ability to handle things, it will only lead to failure. They need to give up their current stubbornness," emphasizing this point.

He added, "This is not the time to be stubborn; we need to look at this from the starting point. Next year's first-year medical students will number 7,500, including this year's students on leave plus the increased quota. If early admissions start next week, it will be a point of no return," and stressed, "The president must take responsibility and swiftly come up with alternatives from the starting point."

Regarding the Prosecutorial Investigation Deliberation Committee's recommendation not to indict Kim Gun-hee, wife of President Yoon Seok-yeol, in the luxury handbag acceptance case, he criticized, "It's like giving a pardon," and questioned, "The prosecution in South Korea is dead. Is there judicial justice?"

Earlier, Governor Kim posted on Facebook the previous night, saying, "The president has created a 'prosecution exception' principle. The president, who swore to abide by the Constitution and laws, only kept it for his wife," raising his voice, "Now, only a special prosecutor is the answer."

Regarding his advice not to respond to the summons related to the prosecution's investigation into the alleged preferential hiring of his son-in-law Seo Mo at an airline, he said, "There was a sense of d?j? vu reminiscent of former President Roh Moo-hyun's 'ditch watch' incident, and it was a pledge to protect former President Moon together with the people."

When asked during a meeting with Lee Jong-chan, president of the Liberation Association, whether Lee mentioned who the 'shadow of the Yongsan spy' was, Governor Kim replied, "President Lee mentioned it. I cannot disclose the details of the conversation," and added, "President Yoon is erasing history and is the host and core of pro-Japanese collaborators. Isn't he a parasite on the host? This is a problem the president must solve."

When asked about the term 'New Three Kims' (referring to Governor Kim Dong-yeon, former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, and former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo, who are considered rivals to Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung) and whether he plans to serve a second term as governor, he said, "I am focusing on governing Gyeonggi Province," but also added, "'New Three Kims' seems to mean that the people desire a change of government and want the pie to grow, and politics must keep expanding the pie."
