The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters announced on the 8th that it will operate a "Special Voluntary Surrender and Reporting Period for Organized Fraud Crimes such as Voice Phishing" from the 9th of this month until the 31st of next month.
Voluntary surrender and reports/tips can be submitted through 112 or any police station nationwide, and there are no restrictions on the method of surrender. Rewards for arrests will be actively provided based on the extent to which the report or tip contributes to preventing damage and apprehending criminals. Dedicated surrender and reporting channels will be established locally in five major countries, including China, the Philippines, and Cambodia, to enable immediate reception.
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office stated that those who voluntarily surrender to the "Government Joint Investigation Team on Voice Phishing Crimes" and provide information about criminal organizations and accomplices will be treated leniently within the limits allowed by law. Even if surrendering at other police stations, this will be actively reflected in sentencing. The Financial Supervisory Service will produce an infographic video to guide the special voluntary surrender and reporting period, which will be broadcast on YouTube channels, the Voice Phishing Guardian website, and financial company lobbies.
A National Police Agency official said, "Victims of organized fraud crimes such as voice phishing and investment leading rooms have suffered devastating damage," adding, "Once this voluntary surrender and reporting period ends, strict punishment will be enforced under a zero-tolerance policy for organized fraud crimes."
