Applications for the scholarship are open to children of those who died in expressway traffic accidents or accidents occurring during construction and maintenance work, or to individuals who have been diagnosed with severe disabilities due to such accidents and their children. For basic livelihood security recipients or lower-income households, up to two applicants per household are allowed, while other households may apply with one applicant each.

Selected scholars can receive support ranging from 2 million KRW to a maximum of 5 million KRW in the application year, depending on income level, covering from preschool children to university students. Starting this year, the minimum scholarship amount for middle school students and below has been increased from 1 million KRW to 2 million KRW.

To apply, applicants should refer to the Korea Expressway Corporation and Expressway Scholarship Foundation websites and submit the application form and related documents by mail. The selection results will be finalized after review by the scholarship foundation and individual notifications will be made in December.

Meanwhile, since establishing the Expressway Scholarship Foundation, the Korea Expressway Corporation has selected 6,804 scholars and provided approximately 11.7 billion KRW in scholarships up to last year. Additionally, they operate the 'Blood Donation Bank Support System' for expressway accident victims, 'Anadream' for traffic accident trauma treatment, and 'Stand Up' for employment support, providing support throughout the life cycle from immediately after the accident to achieving independence.

Ham Jin-gyu, President of Korea Expressway Corporation, said, "We deeply empathize with the difficulties faced by expressway accident victims," and added, "We will operate various support programs through life cycle-based assistance until they can fully become independent."
