Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) will implement the '2024 Chuseok Comprehensive Measures' from the 13th to the 19th of this month. The plan includes measures in four key areas closely related to daily life: livelihood, traffic, living, and safety. During this period, a comprehensive situation room will be established to respond promptly to any emergencies.
The district will focus on 'Livelihood Care and Accompaniment' by providing tailored support for vulnerable groups. Consolation funds will be given to single-parent families, low-income households, and national veterans. Onnuri gift certificates and traditional Korean sweets (Hangwa) will be provided to residents of welfare facilities for the disabled and elderly. To prevent care gaps, telephone calls and home visits will be combined to check on elderly recipients of customized care services.
To help homeless people and residents of jjokbang (small rooms) enjoy the holiday, a joint ancestral rite will be held on the 12th at the Donu-dong Jjokbang Counseling Center. On the same day, the Changsin-dong Jjokbang Counseling Center will serve meals and distribute donated goods to jjokbang residents.
Until the 13th of this month, a 'Price Countermeasure Situation Room' will operate on the 7th floor of the temporary office building. It will inspect compliance with price labeling and country of origin labeling, and crack down on price-fixing of essential goods.
For residents' convenience, enforcement against illegal parking and stopping will be relaxed around traditional markets. The targeted areas include all traditional markets in the district, including Gwangjang Market and Tongin Market. At the same time, small commercial areas, residential alleyways, and local roads with insufficient parking spaces will be managed flexibly. However, for the safety of residents, enforcement will continue as usual in absolutely no-parking zones such as fire facilities and bus stops.
A large-scale cleaning campaign will also be conducted before the holiday to maintain living convenience and public order. Old waste will be collected from main roads and side streets, and environmental officers and the 365 Clean-up Task Force will carry out major clean-ups in key urban areas. Public restrooms will be cleaned at least once daily, with consumables replaced to alleviate citizen inconvenience.
Jongno-gu will conduct safety inspections at 25 traditional markets and shopping districts. Experts in fire safety, gas, electricity, and construction will carry out proactive inspections to prevent fires.
The safety status of road facilities will be closely examined. The possibility of collapse, cracks, or damage will be checked at 146 major road facilities such as pedestrian overpasses and road slopes. Inspections will also be conducted on disaster-vulnerable sites like construction sites, small-scale aging buildings in maintenance zones, and old apartment complexes.
The Jongno-gu Chuseok Comprehensive Situation Room will operate for seven days from 6 p.m. on the 13th to 9 a.m. on the 19th. Approximately 120 district employees will be deployed for day and night civil complaint responses. Administrative support, cleaning, flood control, parking, and medical response teams will be organized to prepare for emergencies during the holiday period.
