'Drug Eradication: Businesses Providing Venues Will Also Face Business Suspension' 'A Maze with No Exit, Never Start Using Drugs'

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 5th that it conducted a joint campaign on the evening of the 4th in the Jangandong area, where entertainment facilities are concentrated, to prevent illegal drug-related activities.

The campaign involved about 80 participants, including staff from Dongdaemun-gu, Dongdaemun Police Station, Seoul Eastern Education Support Office, and members of the Korea Entertainment Food Service Central Association, Korea Danran Pub Central Association, and Korea Food Service Central Association Dongdaemun Branch.

The participants gathered at the entrance to the ‘Jangandong Taste Street’ and were divided into three groups to carry out street campaigns by area.

They visited entertainment venues, danran pubs, and restaurants serving alcohol to distribute ‘Drug Prevention Promotional Materials’ containing information on ▲drug side effects ▲reporting methods ▲anonymous drug testing methods, as well as notices summarizing ‘Food Service Business Operators’ Compliance Requirements’ to business owners and citizens.

In particular, they emphasized that if a business owner intentionally provides places or facilities necessary for drug crimes or instigates or aids such crimes, they may face a first-time business suspension of three months, and upon a second offense, license cancellation or business closure according to relevant laws. They requested active cooperation to prevent drug crimes in entertainment establishments.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Since March this year, we have been conducting nighttime guidance and inspections targeting food service businesses such as entertainment and danran pubs together with Dongdaemun Police Station,” and added, “We plan to continue ongoing promotion and inspections to eradicate drugs that threaten the health and daily lives of our residents.”
