Participation in Five Sports: Soccer, Taekwondo, Bowling, Yachting, and Shooting
Dongmyung University recently held an orientation for the 2024 KUSF Student Athlete Doodream Program, which was selected earlier this year, on the 26th.
On this day, about 120 participants, including around 90 student athletes from five teams?soccer, taekwondo, bowling, yachting, and shooting?as well as 32 general students, professional tutors, and assistants, attended the event.
The KUSF Student Athlete Doodream Program (hosted by the Korea University Sports Federation, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation) is a tutoring-based initiative designed to support academic management for student athletes. Its goals include strengthening learning capabilities, improving adaptation to school life, promoting interaction between student athletes and general students, and breaking away from the "island culture" of athletic teams by encouraging group activities between student athletes and general students.
The program consists of three components: Doodream-Eum (student tutoring), Doodream-Baeum (team tutoring), and Doodream-Hamkke (double tutoring).
Dongmyung University was selected for the highly competitive "Doodream-Hamkke" program and will conduct a 16-week educational program. Each group will focus on areas such as sports rehabilitation, sports instructor certification, English conversation, and enhancing Chat GPT utilization skills.
Professor Bang Hyunseok, Dean of Student Affairs at Dongmyung University and head of the project, stated, "Our university is participating in this academic management support project to enhance student athletes' academic abilities and support enjoyable campus life through interaction with general students. We will actively support student athletes so they can break away from the athletic team-centered culture and grow into sports talents who can represent the nation through a fulfilling university life."
Professor Jin Daekeun of the Department of Soccer at Dongmyung University, who is the program operator, said, "Although the KUSF Student Athlete Doodream Program has been running since 2018, this is the first year Dongmyung University applied and was selected. We will do our best to foster a healthy university sports culture and help student athletes adapt to university life by encouraging interaction with general students and providing opportunities for diverse challenges and achievements."
Dongmyung University has recently emerged as a prestigious sports institution, achieving outstanding results in various national competitions in soccer, taekwondo, shooting, bowling, and yachting.
The soccer team lifted the championship trophy at the 60th University Soccer Federation Hansan Battle Trophy just two months after its founding. In taekwondo, first-year student Kim Hyewon (women's poomsae division) won at the 21st Keimyung University President's Cup National Taekwondo Competition.
Additionally, the shooting team won an impressive 39 medals at various national competitions in the first half of 2024, producing two candidates for the national team. Three promising yachting athletes won gold, silver, and bronze medals at the 36th Presidential Provincial Yachting Competition and the 2nd National Team Selection Trials, with Lim Sungjun being selected for the national team.
