"First Half Year Korea Panel Light Emitting Material Purchase Share 51.2%... Down 7.8%P"

UBI Research Analysis... China Market Share Up 7.8%P

The market share of Korean display panel companies in purchasing organic light-emitting diode (OLED) emitting materials has declined. The market share of Chinese companies has increased. This indicates an expansion of China's market dominance in OLEDs, following liquid crystal displays (LCDs).

According to the 'OLED Emitting Materials Market Track' published on the 5th by market research firm UBI Research, the purchase amount of emitting materials by Korean OLED panel companies in the first half of this year was $495 million (approximately 661 billion KRW). The market share was 51.2%, down 7.8 percentage points from the first half of last year. The purchase amount by Chinese companies was $471 million (approximately 629 billion KRW), accounting for a 48.8% market share, up 7.8 percentage points compared to the first half of the previous year.

UBI Research explained that as shipments from Chinese panel companies increase, the gap in the purchase amount of emitting materials is gradually narrowing.

In the first quarter, for the first time, the market share of Korean panel companies in purchasing emitting materials was lower than that of Chinese companies, recording 47.4%. In the second quarter, the market share rose to 54.7%. This was due to an increase in shipments of OLED panels for IT use and Korean companies starting production of panels for the iPhone 16.

UBI Research forecasts that the purchase amount of emitting materials by Korean companies this year will reach 55.6%, higher than the first half, due to increased shipments of Apple OLED panels.

UBI Research stated, "Although China's BOE also passed the sample certification for the iPhone 16, the timing was delayed, so shipments this year will not be significant," and added, "As BOE's iPhone volume decreases, shipments of Korean company panels are expected to increase."
